Christian Ospelkaus

Professor for Experimental Physics
Smiling portrait of experimental physics professor Christian Ospelkaus standing in front of a large computer.

Christian Ospelkaus is professor for experimental physics at Leibniz Universität Hannover and German National Institute of Metrology (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt). During his postdoctoral work at NIST, he demonstrated the first fully integrated entangling quantum logic gate with trapped-ion qubits. His present research focuses on trapped ions as qubits for future quantum computers and on applications of trapped ions in tests of fundamental physics. He is co-speaker of the Quantum Valley Lower Saxony (QVLS) Q1 quantum computer project and coordinator of the BMBF ATIQ ion-trap quantum computer consortium. He is a co-founder of the quantum technology deep-tech startup QUDORA Technologies.
