Michael Rauter

Michael Rauter studied cello and chamber music in Cologne and Berlin and worked for nearly twenty years as a cellist, composer, performer and director. In 2006 he founded the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop in Berlin, where he served as artistic director until 2016.

From 2018 to 2022 he created music theatre and performance projects under the label “Bob’s Company”. Between 2018 and 2020 he was a fellow of the #bebeethoven programme for Beethoven’s 250th anniversary, funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.

His productions and compositions have been presented in theatres and at festivals such as the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen, European Centre for the Arts Hellerau, Holland Festival, Sydney Festival, Operadagen Rotterdam, deSingel Antwerp and the Donaueschinger Musiktage. His film Pixelsinfonie was shown in 2021 at the National Gallery Singapore and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).

He has collaborated closely with artists including Boogaerdt/Van der Schoot, Laurent Chétouane, Aliénor Dauchez, Luigi De Angelis, Susanne Kennedy, Mouse on Mars, Sasha Waltz and Ladislav Zajac.

Since September 2025 he has been teaching at Hagenbeck Secondary School in Berlin-Weißensee.
