Professor Iyad Rahwan is Director of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, where he founded and directs the Center for Humans and Machines. He is also an Honorary Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Technical University of Berlin. Before relocating to Berlin, he was an associate professor of Media Arts & Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Iyad Rahwan's work lies at the intersection of computer science and human behaviour. With a focus on possible impacts of on the way we think, learn, work, and play, and through scientific and artistic projects, Rahwan has investigated topics such as human-machine creativity or AI's ability to evoke fear or empathy in humans. He also researches modes of human-machine collaboration and develops predictions about the potential impact of AI on human labour.
